Dude! You Need to Listen to This...- Ladies Takeover: Pop Edition

What are you doing right now, Homework? Working out? Headed home from work? Whatever it is, I've got some jams for you that will liven up your Wednesday afternoon. I've picked six female artists, or lady fronted bands that I have been playing on repeat, and posted my favorite song.

1. Chvrches- The Mother We Share

This has really great remix potential for any DJs out there, the beat and melody are stupidly catchy, and the vocals are nicely on point. I also really respect front woman Lauren Mayberry, who recently spoke out on misogyny in the music industry, so there goes feminist bias.

2. AlunaGeorge - Your Drums Your Love

The music video is choreography magic and Aluna's outfit is A++ ,so I don't think I really need much justification but this is what Pop music should really sound like.

3. Ellie Goulding - Tessellate  (Alt-J cover)

I've never been disappointed by an Ellie Goulding cover. When the original song came out I listened to it on repeat, and now I can't stop listening to this. Goulding has slowed the song down and given it a bit of an R&B twist. Good stuff!

4. Little Dragon - Overdose

"Oooh ooh, you're like an overdose!" This song is stupid addictive. (lame pun very much intended) Great for dancing in the kitchen.

5. Elliphant - Down on Life

Not gonna lie, this music video is pretty weird, but in the best way possible. The chorus will be stuck in your head for days. She's also seriously "werking" that pleated skirt/bomber jacket combo. Bonus points if you check out her song "Could it Be" which is perhaps one of the best breakup songs this year.

6. Lorde - Buzzcut Season
I cannot in good conscience write a blog post about music with great female pop artists and leave out indie darling Lorde. Guys, check out her tumblr: here. She's so great. This song came out in her new album, Pure Heroine which I have been loving quite a bit this fall. It's good stuff, the lyrics are nice and thoughtful and Lorde's voice is something else. Also, at 16, she makes me feel like I've done nothing with my life. :(

xx
